So can Holistic Therapies and Reki really help with Mental Health?
For a long time it has been believed that holistic therapies and Reki can help rebalance your mind. They use the energy meridians and fields to put your mind and body back into balance. Of course you would need to have belief in this for it to have any effect.
What is a Holistic Therapy?
Holistic Therapy is a range of complimentary therapies, different massages that pinpoint your energy fields to help rebalance your mind, body and spirit. The holistic approach to health differs from the conventional medical approach in that it takes into account the whole patient rather than just focusing on the symptom or the part that has the problem. This is used a lot for psychological problems.
Where can I go to get Holistic Therapy?
• If you are a parent with a young child you can speak to your local Children’s centre (normally sure start) as they can refer you to their private holistic therapist, and if you are in receipt of benefits this is normally free.
• You can do a google search on holistic therapists in your area too. Normally community centres have them once a week or local women’s or young person’s centres too.
• If you are near a college, they too may have holistic therapies in their salon at a discounted rate so it’s always worth checking them out.

This is something I've never tried for my mental health, but I'd love to look into it! I think there really is quite a lot of substance behind it actually.
My mum trained in reflexology a few years ago, I thought it was a load of tosh, but she used me as a case study for her exams and I was blown away by it! I have ongoing problems with my knee from an old injury and sometimes it flares up to the point where I find it difficult to put weight on it. One day it was so bad I couldn't even get down the stairs, she did a half hour reflexology treatment on me, and the next day it was like a new knee!! Totally converted!
Unfortunately now she lives 200 miles away, and I aint paying someone for it, so I'm back to knee pain haha

Ohhh no! Good to know that it worked nicely for you're knee, it really is amazing stuff! My cousin does reflexology too in his gym, he gets a lot of custom for it, mainly people with MH conditions. I'd love for a closer member of my family who do reflexology I'd be booking an app every week lol!
Holistic Therapy can be absolutely fantastic, I had a head and shoulder massage every Saturday morning at the local women's centre for Stevenage when Chase was 1, which is when my post natal psychosis/pnd+BPD was at it's peak. She made me feel very welcome, relaxed and at home, an extremely relaxing atmosphere was created with an oil burner and some Jasmine oil, so a little bit of aromatherapy mixed in too. But I just went into a deep state of relaxation, she was giving me instructions, 'clear your mind' 'imagine yourself somewhere...'
Unfortunately I had to stop after a month as I found it very difficult to juggle being a mum, having a job, CBT, counselling AND holistic therapy as well as poor old Callum who probably felt incredibly neglected lol.
