CAMPAIGNING/DEBATE IDEAS Hi guys,
I don't know if any of you know, but there is a student mental health day in February. I am in touch with various people at my university who are interested in being involved and I'm just wondering really if anyone has any ideas on what we could do on the day/week to raise awareness, campaign etc?
Another thing I've been hoping to do is organise a joint event between the Psychology Society (which I'm President of) and the Psychiatry society - maybe get a clinical psychologist and psychiatrist in and get some sort of debate going between the two, as they obviously always have very different views of therapy v. medication and so on. So the two could possibly be tied in together. Can anyone think of a good topic to hold a discussion/debate on? So the two questions: 1) Ideas to campaign for student mental health day on university campus 2) Possible Psychiatrist/Psychologist debate topics Appreciate any advice or ideas! Hope you're all well xxx

I did a mental health campaign when I was VP welfare. It was run over several months but if you only have the day; we did things like run a film afternoon where people came and watched films with a MH theme, put together a MH tool kit containing info on university support and where to go for help and guidance - these were given out with free sweets/lollie pops. I ran a scheme in the library where people wrote down positive thoughts on card and stuck randomly in books, so they would be found by someone studying (we needed permission from the library to do this). I ran some positive body image workshops (if this is something you're interested in I think I still have my notes somewhere). We also used the Time to Change pledge campaign and got people to write down what they will do to end MH stigma, then made a collage out of them all to display in the students union. There was loads more but it was a few years ago, I'll try and remember! lol xxx

Thanks Mia, those sound really great, I particularly like the one about putting positive notes in library books! What about a topic for a psychiatrist/psychologist debate, have you any ideas about that? I'm struggling to come up with anything! xx

Opinions on medication might be a good one, as like you said, there's likely to be some variation.

May be a rubbish idea but maybe you could give a talk to people at your uni that anyone can attend and talk about what MiLO does really and stuff? Or maybe get one of the other staff into your uni to give the talk and you could take a few of the wristbands to sell or sth? I dunno just an idea I would probably do if I was at uni?
