Anyone got any experience of exercise really helping them? I know someone who it helped stop smoking (I know smoking isn't a mental health problem but it's an addiction like some other things mental health related!) I know I have to be careful because I'm trying to recover from an eating disorer, but I do it because it makes me feel like I can face the day afterwards rather than to burn major calories. When I was really ill I never ran for fear of getting muscle bulk (ignore the anorexia logic that is illogical here). NOTE: I do have permission from MH services to be exercising, please don't if you don't!
I can't hallucinate when I run. I can't self harm when I run. I can hardly breathe or think when I run. My mood can't mess me up when I'm running.
anyone else finding exercise helpful? What exercise do you do that helps?

I have Social Anxiety Disorder and was housebound for a number of years. It's only this year that I've started leaving the house again once a week.
The state of my life means I'm often anxious, angry/frustrated or depressed and I have found that if I'm able to leave the house and literally walk it off, it has been helpful.
Obviously, excercise in the case of someone with an eating disorder is different though, because it can often be part of the illness. I watched the "Don't Call Me Crazy" season on Channel 4 and there was a girl on there where exercise was part of illness.
For me though, I have found that walking can literally walk off my symptons, at least temporarily. Any break from them is gratefully received really.

I love going for walks. I love swimming even though I haven't been in months, I'm goin to start doing it regularly again. Being in water is so calming to me.
