It's Therapy Thursday!
Today we want to specifically look at meditation and how that can help as a coping or distraction method. It would be good to hear everyone's experiences of meditation, or if you've never tried it what you think about it. Do you think it can help? How do you meditate? Do you think it's a load of old rubbish?
Whatever your opinion, share it with us! We'll also be having our Therapy Thursday hangout at 8pm today and we're going to try out a bit of meditation as well as go through everyone's thoughts on it. Let me know if you want to join!
The person with the best response will become our Therapy Thursday champion and gets to pick what we talk about next Thursday, as well as our first first forum award. Oooooh. Go, go, go!

I'd honestly never try meditation, but that's my personal thoughts. If it helps individuals and they feel it beneficial, great! It's just something I personally steer well clear from... sorry guys, won't be at this hangout but I genuinely hope it really helps everyone who tries it

I've personally never tried it but I can't see any harm in trying something new, maybe I'll give it a go and see what happens.

I tried it once when I was younger and I was going through a bit of a wellbeing phase, but I haven't actually tried it FOR my mental health. I know a few people in the support group say that it's supposed to be a really good way of relaxing, but I find it really difficult to shut my brain up.
Is there a particular reason you don't like the idea of meditation Lucy? You don't have to go into it if you don't want to, I'm just intrigued.
You should join us this evening Max!

You're all going to think I'm a bit weird for this...but I believe in demons and stuff etc etc... and meditation opens your mind to all that stuff and allows it to come in... I'm a Christian, so I don't really want that.. but that's just my opinion

I did meditation at school in drama and it actually triggered me to dissociate. Never tried it since and don't really fancy it to be honest. I think it can be really beificial for someone if they are stressed or anxious but it wasn't my favourite therapy.

Looks like I've picked the worst possible therapy to start with then, sorry guys!
Lucy, I don't think that's weird at all, I completely understand why you would feel that way.
Beth, I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience with meditation before.
Perhaps I'll open up a poll for the next Therapy Thursday and then everyone can vote, as I've obviously picked one that nobody really wants to do. So far I have just Max as a yes for this evenings hangout then I guess?

lol, no don't think that! Everyone will have had good or bad experiences... just because a couple of us don't like the idea or it hasn't been great for us, that doesn't mean it won't help a lot of other

I'd love to do a meditation hangout, I'm just too behind with this essay this week! Could always do it next week? lucyrob, meditation isn't about contacting another world or anything it's just about being in the moment, relaxing etc. It's fine if you still think that way, just wanted to check that you don't think it's the same as witchcraft or anything like that? They're unrelated! xx

Actually I will now....
When you're meditating and completely 100% relaxed, so is your mind. Therefore, it's open to anything and anyone. And the way I believe, I think my mind/life should always be focussed on God if you get what I mean?
I know this sounds a little weird, but I appreciate you not judging!!!!!

I do get it Lucy. Jake is a strong believer in God and he says that his type of meditation is praying, so I do understand.
Anyway, I'm going to put together a poll for next week's therapy Thursday, as this one obviously didn't go down so well. Haha.

Haha, okay even though I don't agree that that does make a lot more sense what Bex said about prayer being a form of meditation makes sense too. Sorry if I sounded patronising or anything, I didn't mean to I just didn't know what you meant!x
