Do tell. I've heard lots of things about this but no personal experience.
By the way, it's National Cat Day today!

I have a cat and a dog who both really help me - although not at the same time for obvious reasons! My cat likes to sleep on my knee when I'm sitting down, which is great for helping me to relax, and having a dog really helps me to get out of the house a lot more.

Definitely! I've just moved back home with my parents for a while and I'm finding having the dog around hugely helpful (they have had her since I was 8 or 9). She definitely senses when I am feeling low and is much more affectionate than usual. She is always around for cuddles and even lets me cry on her! She is also great for getting me up and about, and I find walking the dog hugely therapeutic. As you can probably guess, I've missed her since I moved away from home xx

Oh, definently. I have a dog and a cat, and also "babysit" horses 2-3 times per year for like a month. Sometimes I just don't want to be around people and their questions but also don't want to be alone my thought, then the unconditional (and silent) love of a pet can be a great comfort. I go for lots of walks with my dog, and also taking care of the horses, focusing on them and feeling like they "need me" can be a welcome break.

I have a little chihuahua puppy and like pixiecall have also just moved back to mums. He is such a happy little chappy that he gives me a tiny bit of sunshine on the worst days and a reason to leave the house too. He is also hilarious he has a real sense of humour and knows when I'm down and he gives amazing cuddles and listens without talking lol.
I don't think I could live without him now.
I hope you are all well. Laura x

Sorry I'm a bit slow on the up take, but yes, my three cats are extremely helpful in relaxing me! Just having something that loves you unconditionally, no matter what you look like or who you are, I just love that. :-) x

I don't have a pet but I grew up with a variety of pets. I would love a cat to keep me company but under my housing rules I am not allowed any pets at all. I do believe that having a pet or 2 does really help with MH issues

My cat, Kitten. He knows when I'm down and he climbs on my lap and gives me cuddles. Some of you have seen this happen on hangouts. But I would be lost without my little furball I really would. He too has a MH condition, he has Psychological Stress Disorder, this was diagnosed in May this year, he SH's daily but there isn't anything we can do for him other than try to distract him the best we can. He's a very placid little furball who loves attention as well as giving attention

I have a 13 year old border collie. I've had her since a pup and she's my best friend - we've been through a lot together and know each other very well now. Often, she's the one reason I have for getting through the day.
At the moment, really bad anxiety is making it difficult to for me to leave my house. If I can take her with me, it's SO much easier to get past the front door.
I do worry sometimes that I can't give her everything I'd like to, however I try to reassure myself that she is well fed, exercised, warm and safe, and I love her with all my heart. When I read things like people who are on benefits shouldn't have the luxury of a pet, it makes me feel guilty... but also sad because I know if I didn't have my dog I'd have given up a long time ago.

I have 2 dogs 2 cats a gecko a hamster and use to have a rabbit. My oldest dog saved my life. I had gone out the house in about 3 years on my own until I got him. Animals are the best medicine in the world
