This is just a poem I made last year about my MH when my psychosis was really bad. I close my eyes and wonder, What would life be. Without the voices and thoughts, Or maybe without me. The voices make me do things, Things I don't want to do. They say 'Beth, you've hurt someone, And we're going to get you.' I try to tell people my feelings. But sometimes they don't get it. I feel like I'm going mad, Stuck in this deep dark pit. When the doctors talk to my mum, And they say I'm a 'high risk' daughter. I feel like I've been slapped in the face, Or splashed with a jug of cold water. Hopefully this will all stop, Maybe then I'll know. How to stop the feelings, And how to make them go. What do you think? Is it good? No one I know has seen it but do you think I should show it to them to explain that I'm not attention seeking and that it is upsetting? Just wondering. xx

Hi Beth,
I am so proud that you put your feelings, fears and heart into this poem and it is very honest - that makes it fantastic piece of work. I hope it was therapeutic for you and think it will be so helpful for others- those who might be going through what you have/are, those who find it difficult to understand the experiences of those with mental health problems , and also those who enjoy reading poems from the heart. I also think it is very special that this poem was written at a very raw time - I seem to write my best poetry when I'm going through difficult periods.
Let me tell you something I have learned through my own experiences in life and writing poetry - if it is written with the heart as the ink and it conveys something so deep inside you - something that you struggle to express another way, then it's a good poem - so have faith and if you feel comfortable, then do share with others. And of course you can warn people of the nature of it as you have done here, but I would encourage you to write more if it is helpful and healing in any way. I also do write about positive times too- I find poetry a wonderful outlet and forum for dealing with a variety of human emotions - It's always there for me in good times and bad!
I have a new blog which is sharing mental health related art work -including poetry- you're welcome to visit and see how others have also used art to convey their feelings.

Beth I can't tell you how much I relate to this poem, like, I could have written it myself (except maybe not because I'm crap at poetry!) Writing is such a great release, and a great way to get people around you to understand what you're going through as well, because it comes from the heart ya'know? x
