I appreciate this might not be very interesting but I'm MEGA excited and need to just tell someone!
So if you read my previous post, I was very confused as to what to do with both college and my new job at Mind. Things took a turn today..!
I ended up going to my local college to have a chat about stuff. I was told on several occasions I would be highly unlikely to get on the course this late as it was very over subscribed. Got chatting to the course leader (friendly chap!) and he showed me the timetable, gave me suggestions, told me about the services I could use as well like counselling and wellbeing (how lovely of him!). Then he told me he would have me on the course!!! I couldn't believe it!
It worked out that the subjects I'd chosen (Psychology, Sociology and Government & Politics) would all be on the same sort of days, and I'd just be doing two full days on Thursday and Fridays. I was so chuffed that it was that condensed as it meant I had more or a chance working things out with Mind.
Well, I mustered up the courage to call Mind and I wasn't quite expecting the answer I got! I thought the person I was speaking to was hesitating (and I am still doubting myself a little) but I know that that is part of my condition, I read into things way too much. He basically said that it could actually work out "really nicely" - AWESOME! It would mean I would be doing 3 days there instead of 4, but that might be okay he said. He thinks it's a good idea to try and do both because I'll get the knowledge side and the hands on experience ready for the future, especially if this project doesn't get funding next year, which is apparently quite likely.
He's going to call me back next week. Even if they can't fit my college days in, I'll accept the job and leave college for a year. The best thing is that I'm able to accept what will be, will be, and I had the guts to call up and ask my new employer about changing my hours. He even said thanks for letting him know.
If things do work out, I will be a college student as of next Thursday - EEK! xxx
