I thought I'd create this thread because the amount of celebrities opening up about their mental health struggles is rising, which is fantastic for bashing that stigma on the head! Who do you admire for opening up or who do you feel you can maybe relate to? Lets get a little discussion going? xx

An obvious choice, but I admire Stephen Fry so very much for being so open about his mental health. I think he's incredibly inspiring, and one of my personal heroes.

It is a good thing that celebrities are coming forward and helping to raise awareness, but so often it is far and few between. Just wish there was a more gathered strive to help, i.e. a group of celebrities coming together with regular television appearances. They have far more voice than us, but they also get the best help too. I'm fighting just to be heard by my mental health team. Frustrating. Lack of/ or no contact. Still, that said, any awareness raised is always good! Don't wish to be negative on this thread. Sorry! x

I gotta say it as well: Stephen Fry! A brilliant man, who've been very open about his mental health as well as his numerous suicide attempts. I really admire him for speaking so openly about it. If you haven't watched "Stephen Fry: Secret life of the manic depressive" do it now

Recently, a guy called Matt Johnson spoke out about his struggles with depression. It was incredible. He works as a presenter as part of This Morning, and I never ever ever knew until last week that he suffered. Not a mahoosive celebrity, but still on TV very regularly. He was frank, open, honest and Eamon Holmes gave him a hug after he spoke about it!
Others I admire are Ruby Wax, Frank Bruno, and I also know that Charlie Brooker has Emetophobia!

I know what you mean Paige - I had never ever heard of him being a sufferer before, so what he did was amazing. Maybe you could use him as your inspiration to tell the people closest to you? xx

Ruby Wax is amazing, her TED talk on depression was great. Further to that Catherine Zeta Jones for revealing her bipolar disorder and Frankie Sandford from The Saturdays, I kind of feel like the interviews she's done in magazines and on television, and the campaigning for orgs like Time To Change have helped to better engage younger people with understanding depression.

Katrine: oooh, never seen that Kim & Paige: me & Paige knew about Matt Johnson, he recently took part in tipping point & got £20,000 for mind...I'm sure it was that much incredible! Esther: I completely see what you mean about engaging young people without a doubt, I've been amazed by Frankie since I read her article in Glamour magazine last year xxxx
