Michaela I agree with everything you said. That panelist Jane I think her name was, I think she's meant to be a 'comedian' and thought she could make a joke out of it or something but she was so wrong it was unbelievable, that along with some of the online comments such as "people need to toughen up" just goes to show the stigma towards mental health. However, on the plus side, I thought Ranj and Ruth spoke with a lot of sense and I couldn't really disagree with them on anything. I think Ranj was also in 'Failed By The NHS' talking about certain issues.

Totally agree with your post. I think that the programme should have had a trigger warning at the beginning!

Jane annoyed me sooooo much - I was so frustrated by her horrible ignorance. And her very insensitive use of terms such as "nuts", "mad" etc - I know that lots of people use these terms commonly and casually, but because it was her, it annoyed me even more. I think the whole programme should have been dedicated to mental health

I agree it should, the other stuff was a bit random tacked on. They should've had a series really and has different topics on seperate shows.

Forgive me, I never commented on your fantastic blog review ~ Brilliantly done - a really educated and intelligent response to Jane's ignorance and demeaning attitude towards mental health problems - you covered everything that I was so angry about and did so with coherence and without getting frustrated - it was a very well constructed review. It was interesting how Jane's views seemed to highlight several aspects of stigma that exist in society. She represented many of the outdated views that we should be suspending! Your review provides the counter-arguments very well, so thanks <3 I guess what Free speech did show is that we still need to debate such aspects of the issue and that communities such as MiLO need to stand firm and keep courageous in fighting stigma. When I'm back on twitter, can I share your review with others? I don't mind if you'd prefer not I need to work on my debating skills so that I say my points without letting myself get tangled up with my emotions! XX

Thanks meljaynaray! I'm reasonably good at channeling all my frustration into writing, but if I tried to have a oral discussion on the spot, then I would forget everything and it would come out a jumbled mess! The great thing about writing is that you can do it in your own time and keep adding to it and switching the order, which you can't do once you've spoken! I tend to start by bullet pointing each thing, then fleshing it out, then if I think of something in the middle I just add it to the bottom of the list. Then I always read it back to make sure it says what I want to say! Whilst you are still emotional, just write it all out, doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense, because you can just come back to it later once you've calmed down a little and pick the important points out, if that helps? Definitely feel free to share it on twitter, that would be great! xx
