Hi everyone My name is Rachel and I am new to MLO. Amongst many other things, I have recovered from anorexia - in fact in June I celebrated being free from eating disorder services for four years! I just wanted to provide a little positivity to this section of the site. We hear so much about the mortality rates of EDs and people are told that they will never recover but guess what? A full recovery IS totally possible and worth it. Throughout my voluntary work and being co-founder of team recovery I want to spread the message that recovery is possible.

Thanks Rachel, I've been partially recovered for 6 months - 1 year now (I say partially because I slip up a lot still) and it's given me a totally new lease of life

Well done =] It is very impressive to see people who have not let their mental health problems win, you are inspirations =]

Thanks, that's really encouraging - we all need to keep reminding ourselves its actually true! I was doing really well with recovery for 18 months, everything was great, and I just wanted to tell everyone how good it is to be recovered and that it IS possible, and I was so sure that I'd never get ill again. But then I relapsed and it knocked my confidence so it's helpful to have other people remind me that its still possible and I'm not predetermined to just keep on relapsing all the time.

This is great to read. My friend has been living with anorexia/bulimia for many years now, and sometimes I lose hope that recovery is possible... But I never let her know that, since I believe she has already lost hope of recovery. So it's good to be reminded that overcoming this is possible.
