Is bipolar a mood disorder or a psychotic disorder? Or both perhaps?

Perhaps it is relative to the person afflicted? For example, one person might have more extreme ups and downs than another. Think of bipolar as a spectrum, with "Mood" at one end and "Psychotic" at the other. The more extreme a persons highs and lows the closer they get to the far end of the spectrum. Mind you this is all speculation at best, I mean no offense by this post

Hey there,
Officially, bipolar disorder is catagorised as a mood disorder although there can be a psychotic element attached to it. However, if the psychotic element is significant, it is usually classed as schizoaffective disorder because most bipolar sufferers do not present with psychosis.
