Hey! It's great to finally see something like this available for those who have mental health issues at last nice one! I'll introduce myself to you. My name is Joel and i'm a 20 year old guy from Yeovil in Somerset. I have Tourette's Syndrome, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Depression. Although only diagnosed in October 2012 my first tics started when I was 3 years old. I therefore have quite a lot of experience of living with it and coping in day to day living, in private life as well as in public. Life can be hard with Tourette's and OCD combined. My OCD straightens everything up.....then my Tourette's tics mess it up......it's a horrible circle from which there is no escape. Hence the Depression. I know that Ambassador applications are paused but I would love to be an Ambassador for Tourette's and all other Tic Disorders, Depression and OCD as I have a lot of experience and really feel that I can help people in this role. I feel very strongly that Tourette's and Tic Disorders are massively under represented in the mental health arena. Many people don't realise that Tourette's and other Tic Disorders usually come as a pair with another condition.....mine being OCD. Anyhow I look forward to chatting to you all some more Joel x

Hello, and Welcome! My older brothers are asleep, well, except Alex but he's not feeling particularly vocal right now so I hope my company shall suffice! I applaud your enthusiasm for speaking out on behalf of those who share your disorder, you're too right, Tourette's is severely underrepresented. I hope you go far in your endeavors here!

Hey loxanichs Many thanks for your kind words I find that people's reactions to, and perceptions of, Tourette's is severely damaged by the media. The media only focus on the swearing. Coprolaia, which is the swearing part of Tourette's, is actually the least common form. Only 1 in 10 of Tourette's sufferers have it. I have had many times where, in public, i have been ticcing noises and say to people "Sorry, I have tourette's" only for them to say "no you don't, you're not swearing". And then they summon a Police Officer. Hopefully being a part of this project will allow me to counteract the stereotypes that are reinforced by the media. We'll start winning the battle eventually
