I saw this group and saw that nobody had posted about schizophrenia. I have schizophrenia, confirmed after years of going in and out of doctors a few years ago (2009). It took a while, but getting diagnosed helped me understand what I needed to do to help myself. Different things help different people. I decided to give up alcohol and smoking. I didn't used to drink any more than the usual twenty something on a Friday or a Saturday (I'm now 33). It has helped in that my medication works better when not drinking alcohol. Alcohol also used to exacerbate my delusions. I guess one thing I miss about drinking is the people I used to meet. Being unwell also meant I cut myself off from a lot of the people I used to socialise with, so I'm more isolated these days. Part of the reason I joined this site is to chat to people. I get lonely these days. I have found a few other schizophrenics on twitter. It seems we are all quite different. My twitter username is ladcalledwill if you want to chat.

I don't have a psychotic disorder, but I wanted to say hi. I've also cut myself off from many people throughout my life because of my disorders, so I'm pretty lonely too. It's harder to go through it alone, isn't it? X

Thanks for replying In some ways I'm lucky, I still have my parents, but I see friends very rarely. It would be nice for someone to show some interest. I found as I experienced schizophrenia more, I cut myself off from friends in different ways. It was a bit disjointed. I'm not sure they were bothered I was seeing them less, I guess we just grew apart. I have called the Samaritans when I've got lonely in the past. Have you tried this? I have found them helpful on most occasions.
