I have really bad trypanophobia, just the thought or anything to do with them (trying to use my words carefully) makes me so unbelievably anxious/nauseous etc. I have two problems, one is that I might have to have a blood test at some point and have no idea how to cope, the other is that no one seems to take it seriously, they seem to think it's just a regular worry like most people have whereas actually it's much more serious than that. Just wondering if anyone else experiences something similar? x

Hi Lia, I don't suffer with this fear, but I do have a very strong disliking, obviously that's not the same thing, which I can appreciate.
If I have to have a blood test, I end up crying and go extremely cold afterwards and can't walk, so my anxiety before hand means I pretty much go into full blown panic. However, I'm not completely phobic of them. One thing I will say though is that most doctors and nurses will be REALLY helpful if you tell them. No matter how scared you are, the likelihood is that they have met someone else just like you.
Have you tried speaking to a GP to see if there is any specific treatment for this phobia? Have you considered CBT?

I've had mixed experiences with nurses, some have been lovely whereas others have been very unsympathetic.. I can't really talk to my GP, my current personal/home life means I can't actually get help for anything at the moment, the only people who actually know about any of my mental health issues are my best friend and you guys :c

The wikipedia page on it is actually really good in explaining the different forms if you're interested (as it can manifest in different ways) x
