Hello everyone!
The “Mentally Wealthy” magazine blog have launched their “This Week In Mentalist” (TWIM) 2013 awards to give recognition to the best mental health blogs and vlogs (video blogs) out there! The website below has all the details:

✪✪✪
I would like to take this opportunity to ask that you consider nominating mental health campaigner Jonathan (Jonny) Benjamin’s Youtube channel for the “Vlog” category. Please take some time to visit Jonny’s mental health vlog below:
www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF0A89E62534E5353
To nominate, use the comment box at the bottom of the TWIM blog post and write this:
Vlog: Jonny Benjamin’s youtube channel- www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF0A89E62534E5353
PLEASE NOTE: Everyone must submit at least two blogs and/ or vlogs overall for their nominations to be counted. With this in mind, as well as nominating Jonny’s youtube channel in the “vlog” category, I can recommend two blogs that would be worth nominating:
1) May Gabriel’s “It’s Ok Campaign”, which challenges the stigma surrounding depression amongst teenagers
t.co/EMhYcS0aQq
This would be ideal for the “Campaigning” category
2) “Stuck in scared”, in which the author provides a very honest account of what it is like to live with mental health problems, through diaries and creative writing
mentalillnessgodandme.blogspot.co.uk/
This would be ideal for the “Lived experience” category

☆ Why nominate Jonny’s Youtube channel for the “Vlog” category? ☆
As a dedicated mental health campaigner and good-hearted person, Jonny puts time, effort, compassion and courage into producing these videos on a range of topics and issues within the realms of mental health. These include discussing his experiences of schizoaffective disorder,

✪ Jonny had key intentions and motivations in creating these videos: ✪
►To give people with mental health problems a message of hope that recovery is possible
► To raise awareness about specific mental health conditions
► To help people to know that there is support, they are not alone and that there are people willing to help break the stigma that they face
► To provide advice on coping mechanisms that may help in everyday life such as mindfulness techniques
►To empower individuals and help them believe in themselves
Spending time watching Jonny’s videos show that he has been successful in these endeavours- his compassionate manner shines through and his heartfelt words gently reach out to a variety of people. Re-visiting his own experiences has not been easy, but Jonny’s altruism and kindness means that he is willing to do this if it will help other people. Specifically, this will make a huge difference in dispelling the detrimental myths and misconceptions about conditions such as schizophrenia that have been generated in popular culture by institutions such as the media.
Seeing Jonny’s videos gives people a determination to challenge unfair practices where this stigma is evident, such as Asda’s recent "mental patient fancy dress costume" and the Sun newspaper’s stigma-fuelling headline “1,200 killed by mental patients”. Let’s not forget that this stigma can worsen the experiences of those with mental health problems beyond the condition itself and can even result in death. Having Jonny’s videos provides strength, courage and support.
Jonny always makes time to share his advice and wisdom and is also very humble. He is very empowering to people who have mental health problems because he reminds them of their worth and value and encourages them not to accept the stigma unfairly assigned to them.
As well as breaking the stigma that afflicts individuals with mental health problems, Jonny has also been working to raise awareness about the importance of talking about topics that are often disapproved of and ignored such as coping with suicidal thoughts:
