Ok so if you're reading this post, you think you maybe suffering with PND. Or maybe your partner, family member or friend.
Well here's the list of things to do if you think PND maybe rearing it's ugly head!
1) Speak to you're/Their GP. The GP is the only person who can do referrals for talking therapies and cognitive therapies but also provide medication in the meantime. They are there to help you, not judge you or take your children from you or class you as an unfit parent. Everyone is allowed to fall down sometimes!
2) Explain to your partner and or your friends and family what you are going through and ask for some extra support as this is important. Accept the extra help and don't fight through it as it can make it worse in the long run for you.
3) Whilst waiting for you're GP appointment or you're therapy appointment, use the 'coping methods' page on here and try practising some of them. They really do work. There are some you can try alone, and there are some you can do as a family also.
4) Try doing things to distract your mind, go out for the day even if it's just to the park or for a walk into town. You could do a craft day if it's bad weather, painting is always fun, turn the negative into a positive. If you have feelings of non bonding this will be good for you to do with your child if they are old enough.
5) Surround yourself with positive people, no negative comments and try and bring yourself up a little. Try to think 'well, I know that thought isn't true!' every time you get an awful thought. The only way to beat this is to overpower it with positivity and non believing!
6) Pick ONE positive thing no matter how small that one thing is for the day and maybe make a mood board. Today I am feeling _______. This is very useful to go back to and look at when you are feeling low, because then you can see the positive things you have around you and have happened to you and it also counts as a progress board too!! The more positivity on the board, the better the progress.
Alternatively if you are feeling really low you can always message myself or Leanne who are the PND Ambassadors for further help and advice. Please remember we are NOT professionals, but we ARE talking from the most important thing. EXPERIENCE!
