Hi everyone! My name is Aleisha or as my mom calls me Leishie. I'm 25 years old and have been dealing with mental illness in some form or another since I was 6. Things really didn't get out of hand for me though until I was 12. I was first diagnosed when I was 13 with depression and then when I was 14 I was finally correctly diagnosed with Bipolar. I've been in therapy since then so I have a lot of knowledge when it comes to dealing with relationships and mental illness. I'm also knowledgable because for the last couple years I've been working for NAMI (The National Alliance On Mental Illness). It's a not-for-profit that offfers support groups and education to not only those with mental illness but for their family and freinds as well.
My life has been a complicated one. One that I often look back on and go "you are amazing" because I see how far I've come. To the world who hasn't seen my emotional journey I don't seem like much. I'm 25, still live with my mom, have no job, aren't in school, and am on social security. It sometimes bugs me that this is how the world judges us cuz I know there are many people like me (probably a few on this forum) who are just like me. Who the world might not see them as having accomplished much so far but if they knew our stories they'd be asking us to publish autobiographies cuz that's how freaking awesome we are. So I want everyone to remember that.
I don't only live with Bipolar 1 (Rapid Cycling). I livwe with Borderline Personality Disorder, OCD, PTSD, and Panic Disorder. So my days are always a little interesting at least. I feel like a freak sometimes but I guess that's ok since I never minded being the weird one. In fact in the 7th grade I won an award from the entire grade for Most Unique.
I guess that's pretty much it for now. Can't wait to get involved in discussions and get to know you guys. I'm glad a place like this exists. It's needed.
