Hello, I have anxiety/panic disorder and agoraphobia and I have this strange fear I will have an allergic reaction to certain foods (mainly the most common ones to cause anaphylactic shock) whats silly is they are foods I have been eating for years but over the last 6-8 months I have been avoiding them like the plague! so now I find myself not eating yummy things like nuts and seafood or food I have not tried before, I also am avoiding spicy food just in case! does anyone else get this? or is it just me ha ha xx

Hey Carrie, it does sound like another part of your anxiety. Are you having any CBT? Has something caused you to have a change in thoughts about these foods? x

I completed a 12 week course of CBT back in June. I know it's my mind playing tricks on me! I think what started it was a programme on TV and this lady had been eating fish for years and then one night she ate it and had an allergic reaction and was very unwell and alone at home which made it worse...think it scared me and stuck!xx

I think it's good you can realise that you're able to disassociate between the facts and what your anxiety is telling you. Sometimes, it's actually better to face that fear though and learn to accept it. It may happen, but what if it doesn't? Of course that's easier said than done! But maybe try giving small bites of things you used to love a go again. Just little nibbles here and there :-) xx
