Hi Everyone! About a year ago, in the mists of my pre medicated rapid cycling, my producer boyfriend said he needed a feature film script. Luckily he caught me in an oncoming bout of hypomania and a script he did receive. I wrote the film for two reasons: 1. I truly believe that even though living with bipolar can be absolute hell, there is wonder and creativity in feeling such extents on the spectrum of emotions and feelings. The behaviour can be destructive but also incredibly creative. 2. Via film, there is a realm of educating and destigmatizing that can happen to a greater amount of people, especially if audience can understand what the behaviour is. I think its far better than spewing out a list of symptoms on a page. The script is currently in development stage and I'm using this time to reach out to our potential audience. I want to know whether other people think that films about mental health help with stigma? Do people with mental health issues watch these films, if so which ones? Does a film like Silver Linings Playbook help the individual in any way? All in all, what do you guys think?! If you can, I would really appreciate to hear back from you. I'm also fumbling my way around twitter and facebook and you can follow the films progress @surrogate film or www.facebook.com/thesurrogatefilmReally hope to hear from you soon!! Sx

Hey there. Can you please clarify what you mean by there being "wonder and creativity at both ends of the spectrum"? I am a manic depressive and in my tons of experience I have never felt wonderful or creative when i'm at the lower end of the spectrum. Doesn't really make sense to me. I have never felt wonderfully depressed.....it's always pure hell.

Hey Joel,
Just to clarify myself, I didnt say that there is wonder and creativity at both ends of the spectrum ie mania or depression. I said: "there is wonder and creativity in feeling such extents on the spectrum of emotions and feelings." Which, I feel there is an amount of wonder about how someone can experience such a large spectrum of emotions. And creativity as in, it is amazing that these extremes were created inside of human beings.
Hope that clarified!

Hello, welcome to minds like ours.I hope all goes well with your film and I hope it helps to reduce the stigma associated with mental health problems.Hopefully it will be an accurate portrayal as it has been wrote by a sufferer, whereas other films have a tendency to be unrealistic and make the stigma worse.
