Howdy!
I was curious to see if anybody else on this board tends to rock back & forth lots, in order to calm down when they are exceptionally anxious. I've done it for many years but i'm not quite sure if i've ever seen anyone else behave like it, it can look quite odd to an outside observer hehe.

Hey! I believe this is quite common. I tend to jiggle my right leg at about 100mph when I'm very anxious. Don't worry - it's not that uncommon. :-) And if it makes you feel better, it's a safe way to do so! If it does bother you, maybe you could try walking? I find it burns a lot of my anxious energy lol! :-)

Yes, I jiggle my legs, wring my hands, rock back and forth, shake my head... Lots of different things that probably look very strange but are habitual, almost instinctual, when I'm feeling very anxious or agitated.
I've heard the rocking back and forth might actually be associated with being rocked as a baby - which often happened to us when we were upset or uncomfortable.
**trigger** I also hit my head when I'm very anxious or agitated, which some people suggest has to do with simulating the sensation our mother's beating heart might have felt like in the womb.
Not sure how true these suggestions are, but they are interesting notions at the least - that we seek comfort and reassurance from even before we were born.

If i'm sitting down and i'm anxious i tend to repeatedly tap the top of my legs with my hands in a rhythmic fashion, as well as the leg shaking thing that i think is quite common. If i'm standing i'm the same as Anna! If i have to use the phone i walk back and forward over about three yards, so if its a long phonecall i end up shattered after it!
