Until I watched Diaries of a Broken mind, I didn't even realise that this even existed and it certainly put some pieces of a jigsaw together for me. I have suffered with this for a long long time and never knew why but think I may have the answers to my questions. I will do ANYTHING humanly possible not to be sick. When I feel like I'm going to actually be sick I end up having an anxiety attack and it will be one after the other, I sit and cry and beg and I cannot be alone. If someone in my house has has a bug or something I won't eat for days on end until their better and will try and stay out of the house until their better too. Which is difficult for a recovering agoraphobia sufferer! If one of my friends mention they are ill I won't allow them into my home or see them for about a week until I know their safe to enter my home again. Example - August 2011 Callum and Chase both had a stomach bug, as soon as I knew what it was I was straight on the phone to my mum asking if I could travel to London to stay with her until they were better. She laughed at me, told me to stop being an idiot and hung up. I was in tears and so close to ripping my hair out with worry and fear. I didn't eat for 5 days, Callum was so worried he called the doctors and they yet again got the doctor to call me back and he explained stuff to me. It made me feel a little better but then it went again. Then June last year I ended up with a stomach bug, I wasn't sick but I certainly felt like I was going to be. Once again my mother didn't help matters told me to fucking grow up and walked out. We were on holiday at this point. Major panic attack hit me, one after the other. When I ate meat, I would thoroughly check the meat before it entering my mouth even if I cooked it!! I would have a food checking ritual. I still have this now with some foods, like rice. But if I had the slightest thought that the meat wasn't cooked, I wouldn't touch it. If fresh meat was prepared in my kitchen I would go on a disinfecting/bleaching frenzy. I still do this now on the rare occasion we have meat in the house. What help is there out there for me and how do I go about getting it? x

Certainly is a hard one, my best advice would be to go chat with you doctor maybe keep a behaviour diary first then take it in and chat it over see if u notice any patterns as to why you get triggered in to checking your foods ect does something happen before hand ect, I sure if u have it u coukd find out any coping stratergys ect and remember we are all here to suppourt you x

Keeley - I'm emetophobic so you're not alone. :-) I've had this since I was about 7 years old, and I know how debilitating it can be. Unfortunately, I've not received much treatment for it. Part of being an "emet" means I'm actually frightened to recover from it, but there is evidence to suggest that CBT can help ease symptoms. I've heard of dentists that have managed to overcome the phobia enough, which I don't ever think I could manage! There's some great internet support out there, including Facebook pages and a forum called www.emetophobia.org - There's lots of members, it's a great place to go, particularly if you need support. They also have a recovery system which I have bought but have not attempted yet! Some doctors don't know what emetophobia is, and others do. I'm not sure too much what they'll suggest but they might be able to refer you for CBT if you were up for it. Do you have an NHS Wellbeing Service in your area? You know where I am if you wanna talk - I'm extremely emetophobic, and sound like a medicine cabinet when I leave the house with all my safety products I take with me everywwhere! xxx

I have severe emetophobia as I described on the 24 hour feed. My GP doesn't know I have it but the therapist does. Emetophobia is a hard thing to live with and triggers/symptoms vary with sufferers. Is there a specific board for emetophobia sufferers on here?
