Hi, I found this website through Twitter and its an amazing idea creating a website full of people who actually understand what it is like to suffer from a mental illness to help other sufferers. So I guess I should explain abit about me. I use to suffer from clinical depression (back in year 9) and if I never realized I needed help and received the treatment I had, I may have ended up in an institution or worse (saw a clinical psychologist for a year and abit). I do remember my friends not being understanding. They couldn't seem to handle trying to cheer me up all the time. So I slowly started to lose friends. My mum didn't understand. Tell me to 'just cheer up'. One way that seemed to help for the most part was writing songs. And one day (after singing lessons) maybe get some of the songs out into the world. I feel like I survived for a reason and I want to help give back to the world. In fact my recovery has inspired me so much, I want a career in clinical psychology.
Currently, I work as a HCA and life mentor people online. I discovered in January 2013 that I have suffered from dyslexia and dyspraxia, which explains why I found studying so hard during my a level course (and maybe why I suck at maths?). I am currently waiting for my a level results in September (nervous as hell). I do suffer from panic attacks and had extreme anxiety during my exam and study period. So much so they had to give me timed breaks, used them to relax and get my head together to think straight. I have somewhat an idea on anxiety, however I have never found any breathing techniques to work (some tips for anxiety would be nice from anyone on the forum ). I only found sleeping pills at night helped the night before exams or when I felt extreme anxiety that I couldn't sleep (and needed to like waking up at 5am in the morning, ouch).
Sorry for the essay, I just wanted to make a brief intro to my background and how I am currently - fine and dandy! (sometimes get down, but I have trained my mind enough to steer clear as much as possible from negative thoughts in situations now).
Anyways, thank you for activating my account and hopefully I will start posting on the forum actively. So yeah..this is me and hey
