I have Borderline Personality Disorder with Schizotypal Personality Disorder traits. I was basically just wondering if anyone else with BPD hears voices?
I get Hallucinations as well sometimes but I hear voices all the time. I don't know if the cause of it is the BPD or SPD or both and it's the type of thing that I doubt I'll ever find out. They don't always bother me to be honest. In fact, as potentially odd as this might sound, sometimes I like having them there, when they are nice at least. I say 'they' one of them is always nice, it's the others that bug me but they usually only surface when I'm down, stressed or upset in anyway. It's like having a friend there if that makes any kind of sense, so I'm not going to knock it as I don't have any friends to be honest and if given the choice I wouldn't want him to go away. The others, yes, they can disappear.
Anyway I'm going on a bit.
Martin.

Hi Martin - I must admit I don't know much about Schizotypal Personality Disorder, but I just did some reading about it online, and it does list hallucinations as part of the disorder. Maybe it would be worth talking to your GP? :-)

H! Thank you Yeah, as far as I can make out, Schizotypal Personality Disorder (although a Mental Health Condition in it's own right) is a mild form of Schizophrenia, with it being on the Schizophrenia spectrum of Mental Health Diagnosis' as well. I guess the main reason I said that I'm not sure which condition triggers it off that both SPD & BPD can cause Psychosis but for different reasons. With BPD is seems to be triggered under stress and with SPD it's part of the "usual" symptoms as is with Schizophrenia but perhaps not as severe. I've been speaking with my GP about it (my next appointment is in 10 days) and she wants to see how I get on with the Anti-Depressants she gave me before deciding to go any further.

Ahh that makes sense, I can see why you're unsure as to what it is. Have you been under any particular stress recently that may have triggered it? I don't know if this will help, but what about keeping a mood diary? So the days/times you have psychosis, jot it down along with anything else that you've done that day that may be significant? It may help when talking to your doctor when you next see her.

Yeah it started again after a bad period beginning in March and they've not gone away since. That's a nice idea about keeping a diary, I think I'll try that. Thank you

Only once. I heard my dad say my name but he wasn't anywhere near. Don't know if it counts because I was sleep-deprived and under a lot of stress. I dissociate and depersonalise frequently too but that is linked to my anxiety and BPD, I believe.

I disassociate and depersonalise frequently as well. They are symptoms of BPD as well as far as I know. I think maybe Hearing voices and seeing things might be different for everyone with BPD, some people get affected by it, others don't but I think I might be more inclined to do so because of the Schizotypal Personality Disorder as well.
