I've read plenty of articles claiming that exercise really benefits mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. I've put on a few pounds recently, and I want to feel good about myself, so a healthy diet and exercise seems really appealing to me right now, especially with my wedding just around the corner!
Problem is, I have to to admit - I don't exercise. At all really. I sometimes walk to the city centre which is about 20 minutes or so, but that's not very often, especially as I'm not at work right now. Obviously I do things around the house when I can, and try to get out at the weekend with my other half, but I feel like I need a routine.
Where do you start though if you're a complete novice?! And doing healthy meals just seems a chore to me right now (think it's my depression) but I know by making the effort I may just feel better.
So I'm looking for advice, hints and tips on where to start to have a health lifestyle. I don't want an actual diet as such though, I'd be rubbish at something like that!
Thanks in advance. :-)

Hi! I'd say the most important thing with exercise is make sure it's something you enjoy, and keep it varied, otherwise you just get bored really quickly and you won't keep it up. For me it's dancing plus a couple of work outs at the gym a week (I like that the equipment tells you how many calories you've burnt, it makes me really competitive with myself lol). S work out what you like doing, whether it be tennis, or Zumba, or even just walking, and start with one class a week. A you get fitter you'll want to and be able to do more so just build it up gradually as you feel able to
As regards the eating, if you don't want a proper diet but rather just be a bit healthier, I'd recommend food swapping. So for example, if when you go for a coffee you'd usually have a latte, you could make this a skinny latte, or swap it completely for an Americano, this saves a couple of hundred calories! If you'd have a muffin with that coffee, swap it for a cereal bar. Similarly, if you usually fry certain foods, then swap this to grilling them, the way food is cooked has a big impact and again saves a lot of empty calfoies. It's all small things like that that make a huge difference! Hope that helps, or if it doesn't, thanks for reading my ramblings lol
