Hello all,
I am Nic, I'm 19 and have pretty severe social anxiety disorder, as well as hints of other phobias, particularly emetephobia. I constantly think that when I go outside I'm going to be sick or faint and just completely embarrass myself in any possible way. I also feel that everyone is judging me negatively all the time. I know in my heart that everything is a lie and these things aren't happening/going to happen, but it's that little niggly part of my brain that tells me otherwise *curse you subconscious*
I started with my anxiety when I was bout 7 and since then it's got worse- yay!
I left college last year after getting my A-Levels but have since stopped doing anything. I couldn't go to university because of my anxiety as well as other reasons and am too scared to get a job. I currently volunteer at a charity shop 2 full days a week which I am happy about (except of course I'm not getting paid for and sort of need the money), I love it there and everyone is so helpful with my issues, I just wished the rest of society was as understanding as my co-workers.
Anyway. Hello all, hope you are all ok. Nice to meet you.
Nic.

Hi Nic and welcome I am confident you will find support and tips from others on the group who can relate to your disorders (I for one can!) Thank you for taking the time to introduce yourself I'm Keeley one of the MLOfficers here, so you'll see me lurking around the pages regularly and I suffer with Anxiety, Depression, Social Anxiety, Panic Disorder and I previously suffered with Agoraphobia and Postpartum psychosis. Hey Nic, welcome on board, there are plenty people here who struggle with the same issues you do and I'm sure that all of us at some point have felt the lack of understanding from the rest of society. Well that's what we're here to stop! i'm sure you'll find plenty of support here, there's always someone around to chat to I think it's great that you are volunteering for a charity shop and still managing to give back when you are struggling yourself! Even if you aren't in a place where you can work yet, it's good that you are still keeping up as much as you can xx

Oh gosh I am so sorry for the late reply. Thank you all so much for your welcomes and kind words. Anna- yes, you do look awfully familiar, sort of like this girl I talk yo often. Yes, thanks anna, and also thanks for recommending the site. Keeley- Nice to meet you and thank you. I'm glad there is a site that can help make me feel a lot less alone with my struggles. Michaela- Thank you, nice to meet you. Yes, society needs a little more (or a lot more) education towards mental health issues in my opinion, I've found even the smallest of jokes or comments can knock me down for weeks, as I'm sure many on here have too. Thank you, it was a big step to volunteer but I knew I needed to do something. Thank you all and I'll try not stay away as long as this again. Xxx p.s. The website is such a good idea and I commend all involved for their work behind it.
