Hi everyone.
I'm Carla. I'm 23, and I live in Norwich. I'm diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and Depression. I've lived with depression for a long time - I first entered the 'system' at 15, after self harming due to bullying. It was a few years later that a mental health professional suggested I might have BPD. I'd never heard of it before, but it made so much sense, and was the first step into understanding my brain.
This year I've been in a Mindfulness/DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) group, which has been the most helpful treatment I've ever had. I'm now in recovery, and I'm hoping to become a part of this forum to keep myself and my brain healthy by talking to others with similar problems, and also to be a support to others who need it.
*waves* ^_^

I think DBT isn't particularly well known. It was originally developed by a psychology researcher called Marsha M. Linehan, specifically for people with Borderline Personality Disorder - though it can work for people with other diagnoses too. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy is all about emotion regulation, and using mindfulness. You may have seen mindfulness featured recently in the BBC3 documentary 'Let Down by the NHS'. The main focus of the group I went to, was to teach you skills to cope with your emotions. It was incredibly helpful for me. It might be worth having a look at the Wikipedia page, for anyone that's interested.
