Hi, I'm Melissa..19 years old and I've recently diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I've been suffering for a while and only just really took the plunge and went to my GP to say how I'd been feeling. I'm really really nervous about this as I don't really talk openly about how I'm feeling with people but I'm hoping that speaking to others will help ( and I'd like to help others too). I've been prescribed Citalopram and I'm quite scared of taking it, anyone have any advice...worried about side effects etc. Thanks

Hello Melissa welcome to minds like ours, I'm pretty sure you'll like it here..a lovely bunch of people! well done for taking the first step, the first step is admitting you need help you should be very proud of yourself I used to be just like you, scared to speak openly but now I am almost at the stage of shouting from the rooftops or maybe just using twitter & my blog to express myself hehe! When I went on tablets I was scared too, I think everyone is Try not to worry about the side effects, in a way you could probably convince yourself you have some of the side effects & actually not if that makes sense.. If you do get any of the side effects go straight back to the doctor Anna xxx

Hey Anna, Thank you very much, everyone seems lovely from what I've been reading. I wish I had the confidence to talk about my problems with my friends! I just worry that they may not see me in the same way as I know so many people still think so negatively towards mental health problems. Thank you for replying and for your advice I'm going to start my meds tomorrow morning after breakfast and just take it from there! xxx
