My RE teacher is the only person who has talked me through my anxiety. She gave me a rubber band to snap against my wrist (not too hard) whenever I get anxious, and then imagine something or think of something funny to take my mind off of whatever is making me anxious. It really does work! But I got told off for laughing in assembly...

Well done for speaking to someone about your anxiety, that's a great step to of made, and I'm glad they said something helpful. I've never used it for anxiety, but I've used to try not to self harm, I don't find it effective for that, but glad you do for this. Maybe your teacher could explain to whoever told you off that it's a part of a coping mechanism. Depending on what you get anxious about there are lots of different coping mechanisms. I get panic attacks when I'm anxious, and I find a technique called square breathing helps. You find something square and follow the edges with your eyes, breathing out on vertical sides and in on horizontal sides, and it helps regulate your breathing. Other things that can bring you back to normality (although I mainly use them for psychosis, but that's escalated by anxiety so I think it works for anxiety too) is to tell yourself to find 5 red things, then 9 round things, then count how many number 1s you can see etc. it's called grounding. Obviously you don't have to use those numbers or colours or shapes, use whatever, but that helps me a lot, and the harder it is to find the easier it is to stop being anxious. Hope that helps!

They worked for me, especially square breathing when I have a panic attack, not much else helps, I just pass out. :/
