Hi everyone,
Wasn't really sure where to post this but as I think it's anxiety related here will do!
Basically I've been having hallucinations for a little while now, some more obvious than others. Over the last few months however I keep catching spiders out the corner of my eye. It's now led me to check every item of clothing before I put it on and even things such as my towel when I get out of the shower. I don't have a fear of spiders, they really don't bother me, but I seem to have a fear of seeing these spiders out of the corner of my eye or catching them on my clothes.
I know anxiety can do some funny things to our minds, so just wondered if anyone else has a similar experience?
Thanks
Bex x

Hey hun - sorry to hear you're experiencing this.
This actually came up yesterday in my appointment with my OT. In intensive anxiety disorders, people can experience hallucinations or something similar/along that line. It's a way of our minds trying to physically put something in front of us to be worried about, as it thinks this way it will be able to manage with it better.
My OT has a theory that The Man I have is related to severe anxiety - it's a manifestation. I hope that knowing I've been told something similar helps you. It's difficult, but if you can try and keep in your mind that it's not real, that should help. Also, try doing basic CBT steps. Put something on without looking for spiders, feel the anxiety, and eventually it will go down. More practice of that will help you realise spiders aren't everywhere.
Hope that helps and sorry if it's a load of nonsense! :-) xx

Bex, I used to have a similar thing happen to me. I saw spiders everywhere and it scared the s**t out of me. It would wake me up in the night, I would see them crawling on the bed, the ceiling etc yet they were never any there when the light was turned on. Now, I do have arachnophobia but what you described and what I went through is an absolute pain. I check everything for spiders but I have to say the hallucinations or impressions that spiders were there has been gone several years. It was put down to stress and anxiety with me and so far this hasn't resurfaced. I hope that you can get this sorted cos it really isn't nice to deal with
