This is honestly amazing! It was really brave of you to approach them, and even more incredible how fast their attitude changed, all it takes is one voice for things to be seen in a different light and that voice was yours, you have no idea how many people could be saved from abuse thanks to you, it's small steps like this that are breaking down the stigma we're all fighting so hard against. I'm in awe of your courage, thanks for sharing this

Wow Joel, I may have had to wipe a tear away while reading! Congratulations on being brave and helping to defeat stigma. I think a lot of people don't realise just how 'real' and part of society we with mental health and other disabilities are, and it shocks them to accept that.

This is incredible! I must have missed this when you first posted it so sorry, but it has made my day. You should be so proud of yourself Joel, it takes a lot to challenge people like that but you did it perfectly. And it made a big difference! I'm so pleased for you

That's honestly so amazing Joel! I'm so glad you were able to do that and I'm glad it worked out so well! I can imagine it must be hard finding the confidence to go on with daily life, and then having to deal with idiots who are just ignorant, but the fact you managed to educate some of those people into becoming caring and aware is beyond me! Your courage sounds amazing and your story has made me smile today. Well done, really, you sound like a great lad and I'm happy you were so positive and that was able to change your view and the view of others. And for the record, I LOVE that line "I, and others, may have a disability, but never diss our abilities" it's now my facebook status. Well done, and I hope you have more experiences as good as this in the future! xx

Thanks everyone. It's hard to face up to people and even harder to change their opinions and prejudices. But every time we speak out we take a step closer to our ultimate goal of equality and freedom from stigma. Remember folks, we are a family. We are one people against all others. We are an army fighting for our rights and against oppression and persecution. We have a lot of battles to fight but as long as we support each other, make the stand together and speak out we cannot lose. Every time we fall we must stand up and struggle on, for it is those who fail to rise that will never succeed. As long as we rise to face each battle then success will always be ours. Never lose hope, never lose sight of our goals, and always stay together. Love you all on here my mental health family. *insert emotional, motivational music here* xx

Wow what you did was absolutely amazing Joel, That is such an amazing thing to do and it must have took a lot of courage =] It would be amazing to question those lads later in life or even just a few days or weeks later and see if your words stuck I would like to think so, I would like to think that just one brave person can affect the way others think and feel about important things such as mental health problems and if they could pass it on maybe one day mental health will cease to hold a stigma obviously It won't just happen over night but If more people were able to do what you did (which is also what this site is trying to do obviously) then it is a step in the right direction.Well done you are an inspiration =]
